Wigtown Poetry Competition

27th March 2014

The Wigtown Poetry Festival, together with the Scottish Poetry Library, is now inviting entries from budding poets. Since 1997 Wigtown has been Scotland’s National Book Town, with its poetry competition drawing interest from around the globe. The Main Prize is worth £2000, followed by £400 to the runner-up, and eight additional prizes each of £25. The judges this year are WN Herbert, Anne Lorne Gillies, and John Manson.

Poems may be written in one of four languages – (1) English, (2) Scots, (3) Scottish Gaelic, and (4) Irish Gaelic. Each poem must not be more than 40 lines in length and must be unpublished. There is an entry fee of £6.50 for the first poem, with a scale of fees for additional and/or multiple entries.

The closing date for entries is Friday 30 May 2014 and winners will be notified by Friday 15 August 2014. For more information regarding regulations and rules, scale of entry fees, and other particulars, please download the PDF entry form below.
