Largo Fairy Dance

This tune is probably the most famous of all the Scottish fiddle tunes connected with the fairies and was written by the composer Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831) from Perthshire.

The tune is usually known as 'The Fairy Dance', but it is properly called 'Largo Fairy Dance', and another composer called James Scott Skinner set his own variations to it.

Solo fiddlers play it with variations which make this short, simple tune into a longer, more complicated one.

Fiddler Aly Bain from Shetland and the Boston Scottish Fiddle Club from the USA play 'Largo Fairy Dance' in concert, while the Club dancers join them on stage to the delight of the American audience. From Scottish Fiddle Rally 1985-1995. CDTRAX154 (April 1998) Greentrax Recordings

Piper Dougie Pincock performs 'Largo Fairy Dance' with an electronic backing, on an album to be played at Hogmanay parties.

'Largo Fairy Dance' performed by Mhairi MacKinnon, fiddle, and Marianne Fraser, guitar, of Plockton.
