Sands of Kuwait (Set)

This track is from the 2007 album Enjoy The Ride, from the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music, Sgoil Chiùil ne Gàidhealtachd, in Plockton.

The tunes are by three of Scotland’s best contemporary traditional-style composers and players.

'The Sands of Kuwait' is by Gordon MacKenzie, 'The Aird Ranters' is by Fred Morrison and 'Nelson Mandela’s Welcome to Glasgow' is by Blair Douglas.

The musicians say, 'We put this set together for the 2006 Showcase concert, but we got great mileage out of it for the rest of the year.

'The Sands of Kuwait’ was written for Gordon MacKenzie’s colleagues in the Queen’s Own Highlanders who were killed in the first Gulf War.'

A set of three recordings of 'Sands of Kuwait', performed on accordions by Roya MacLean, Amy Henderson and Scott Wilson.
